Welcome to my page, Life With Lisa!!! I appreciate you stopping by.
Last year while experiencing my 54 Before 54, https://lifewithlisa.blog/2019/02/11/54-before-54/ one of my items was to get a household plant for my home office. EVERYTHING on my list had meaning to it, including the plant. I chose the Spathiphyllum, commonly known as the Peace Lily, and here’s why.
I first started by researching household plants that were easy to take care of. Let’s be honest, I do NOT have a green thumb!!! Peace lily fell in the category of “hard to kill!”. In further researching the peace lily, I discovered the following:
- Low-maintenance
- Represents peace & tranquility
- Leaves are big & bold
- The beautiful hoodlike sheath (the spathe), resembles a white flag of surrender
- Resilient
- Forgiving nature
- Vibrant & graceful
- Purifies the air we breathe
- Given as an expression of sympathy & comfort
- Thrives indoors, low light conditions
Aren’t these beautiful characteristics of such a simple, beautiful plant?
Can you relate to my plant that is screaming “I’M THIRSTY!!!”
Once properly hydrated, it revives beautifully.
These pictures are symbolic to the way I feel when I do not drink enough water. I feel like I’m in a slump, lacking energy. Magically when I drink my water, I bounce back feeling as resilient as the peace lily!!!
Beware!!! As lovely as this is, it is poisonous to cats & dogs.
Do you have a favorite household plant? I’d love to hear about it!!!

that’s lovely, lisa. i am horrible with houseplants, but this year, i’m doing a bit better, it’s only taken me 60+ years to begin to get the hang of it and not kill everything. )

Thank you Beth! I’m amazed how quickly it bounces back to life after I forget to water it. Perhaps I’ll be brave enough to add another houseplant this year. 😊

I don’t have a favorite , but I like the peace lily. I try my best with plants but I can’t keep them healthy, but my outdoor plants do well in the Savannah sunshine. Have a wonderful day

I have one as well and they are magnificent! They are perfect since they thrive on indirect light. I’m in an apartment now so my outdoor gardening days are over. Having indoor flowers is necessary. My other favorite is an “Easter” cactus. The brilliant pink flowers are stunning, but they only visit once per year (or longer if I move it).

Just so you know…many people insist it’s only a Christmas Cactus, but mine blooms Mar/Apr. I’ve met a few others that have an Easter blooming cactus too! 💞

I enjoyed your use of us being as thirsty as a plant. Yes indeed, we both a drink of water once in awhile, both physically and spiritually.
