How do you hold your time sacred? Do you have periods of time where you go into “Do Not Disturb” mode? My husband often refers to this as non-negotiable time, and I couldn’t agree more.

I didn’t realize how firm I was with protecting my time with both with my kids and husband, and how I carefully chose to spend my time away from them until recently.
When my children were younger I was careful with how I spent my time away from them. I figured if I was going to take time away from my family, I was going to spend it wisely. We lived in Baton Rouge while my children grew up, and for me taking time away from my kids to spend all day tailgating for a football game was not worth it. *Gasp* It felt like I stood alone with that mindset!!! Yes, I love the LSU Tigers, but I don’t center my life around them. The center of my life is my family. I found a movie and coffee shop outing with a friend to be much more enjoyable.

As I reflect back to 2015 when I committed to my health & fitness journey, I was reminded once again how I valued my time away from my home.
- My Weight Watchers Tuesday morning workshops were MY time. Non-negotiable.
- My Alcoholics Anonymous Noon meetings were MY time. Non-negotiable.
- My fitness time slots were MY time. Non-negotiable.

But lets get real, we often have slices of time that are committed out of obligation. That’s life. We also can have the perfectly planned day only to have it fall apart in seconds when life throws us a curve ball. So when faced with bigger decisions and being pulled in opposing directions depending on the mood (you know – flip flopping back and forth 🤪), I ask myself:
- “Is this really how I want to spend my time away from my family?”
- “Do I have peace with this decision?”
How do you hold your time sacred? How do you choose to spend your time away from your loved ones?

I retreat at the beach, or walking on trails with my camera. As time passes I seem to enjoy quiet time more than ever before.
